Announcement of the winners of the 2021-2022 Intercollegiate Photo Contest

On May 30th, the results of the 11th edition of the World of Images Intercollegiate Photo Contest were unveiled during a virtual event

This edition ended on March 9, 2022 and included 986 photos submitted by 14 college network staff members as well as 224 students from 44 colleges. The organizing committee first pre-selected photos in the two categories College Staff and Student. The jury, made up of seven judges, selected the finalist photos: 6 photos from college network staff and 27 from students. Further to the deliberations, which took place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, the winners were chosen from among these finalists.

Thank you to the members of the jury:

  • Honorary Chair: Michel Campeau

  • Mathieu Lévesque, professional photographer at Consulat

  • Denis Chabot, pedagogical advisor at the CCDMD

  • Pierre Robert, visual arts teacher at Collège Lionel-Groulx

  • Marjolaine Poirier, art historian

  • Réal Filion, photographer and faithful contributor to the World of Images website

  • Laurence Grandbois-Bernard, 1st prize winner of the 2020-2021 edition of the Contest

This year, as in previous editions, the contest is awarding $3000 in grants. There is only one prize in the College Network Staff category: a book by one of the photographers who has served as the contest’s honorary chair for the past few years. There is also a People’s Choice award and five special mentions to underline the quality of certain photos among the 33 finalists.

Among the finalists, here are the winners in the College Staff category for this edition :

Special mention : Staircase by Daniel Plante, Collège Marie-Victorin.

Prize : Étienne Bégin-Thibault from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf for his photo A facade.

 

Among the finalists in the Student category, there were four special mentions to the participants, a People’s Choice award and grants:

Special mention: Kamouraska lighthouse by Cécile Andreu, Collège Salette.

Special mention: Dream by Rafaelle Carrière, Cégep de Sept-Îles.

Special mention: Experiments: Newton’s hallucination by Sam Bélanger, Cégep Limoilou.

Special mention: Losing your head by Manuela Ochoa, Cégep de Jonquière.

People’s Choice award:  Nature by Clara Lebreux-Berger, student at Cégep Limoilou.

 

  

    

5th prize: Isabelle Gerard from Collège Marsan for the photo Duality 3.

4th prize: Mathis De Vriese from Collège Marsan for the photo Wandering 1.

3rd prize: MingXi Gu from Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf for the photo May the sound of change fill the streets.

2nd prize: Manuel Podeur from Cégep Limoilou for the photo Night beam.

1st prize: Benoit Theriault from Collège Marsan for the photo Phantom.

For your information, the selection criteria were based on the photo’s technical quality and creative theme. The photos were objectively and professionally reviewed. The contest aims to encourage and support the production and dissemination of the participants’ work.
