Special prizes at the awards ceremony of the 10th edition of the Intercollegiate Photo Contest

The results of the 10th edition of intercollegiate photo contest – World of Images were finally revealed on the 12th of May at a virtual ceremony.

In this edition, 1453 photos were submitted by 20 employees of the Québec college network’s institutions as well as 226 students in 45 colleges of the same network. This 10th edition has come to an end on the 10th of March. The Steering Committee has done a pre-selection of the best photos in both of the categories Québec college network’s institutions and Students. Then, the jury, made up of seven judges, has selected the winning photos following deliberations that took place on the 13th and the 16th of April.

This year, as in previous editions, $3000 in grants were awarded. There are also two Coup de cœur du jury prizes and two Mention spéciales to draw special attention to the quality of specific photos among the 47 finalists. The five prizes in the Québec college network’s institutions are equal, the five winners will receive books produced by the former honorary presidents of the competition.

Here are the winners of the Québec college network’s institutions category for this edition:

      

            

- Martin Latreille, Anthropology professor at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, won two prizes for the following photos “Promenade lunaire” and “Première neige sur Ste-Cath”.

- A prize was awarded to Étienne Bégin-Thibault, professor of Arts, literature and communication at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, for his photo “Rue Principale”.

- A prize was awarded to Claude Lapierre, Visual Arts professor at the Collège de Rosemont for his photo "Homme au Cadre".

- Madeleine Bazerghi, educational advisor at Dawson College, won an award for her photo “A socially distant moment”.

-Carole Joseph, teacher, Visual Arts program at Cégep de Troix-Rivières, won a Mention spéciale for her photo entitled "L’étrangère".

The jury's Coup de Coeur is: “Sortir du bois” produced by Mirabelle Ricard, professor at the Arts, literature and communication program.

Then, financial grants, a jury's “Coup de Coeur” and a Mention Spéciale were also awarded to participating students. Here are the winners of the Students category:             

                                                       

      

                                                                        

                                                      

1st place: Laurence Granbois Bernard, Commercial Photography student at Marsan College, won the grand prize of $1000 for her photo "Lisières amoureuses 1 - 10".

2nd place: Grant of $750 was awarded to François Poirier, Photography student at the Collège de Marsan, for the photo "Alice-6".

3rd place: Guilhem Gaubert, Photography student at Collège de Marsan, won $500 for his photo titled “Banlieue”.

4th place: Grant of $250 was offered to Simon Lebrun, a student in the Multidisciplinary major at Cégep Rivière-du-Loup, for his photo "Les losanges couvrant le conservateur".

5th place: Mia De Bonis, Arts student at Cégep Bois-de-Boulogne, also won $250 for her photo "Femme de bord clair".

Special mention: The jury awarded a Mention Spéciale to Louis Grégoire, Business Management student at Cégep Ahuntsic, for his photo titled “Horreur”.

The jury's "Coup de Coeur" is “L’inconfort et l’indifférence” produced by Coline Bertrand, a student in Sciences, Humanities and Arts at Cégep de Sainte-Foy.

The selection criteria were based on the quality, the contrasts as well as the creativity of the photography. The photos have been reviewed carefully by photography professionals in a purely objective manner.

The competition aims at encouraging and supporting talented photographers.
