The CCDMD launches the 6th edition of the World of Images Intercollegiate Photo Contest

August 21, 2016

The CCDMD is launching, for the sixth consecutive year, its annual photo contest for college students across the Québec college network.

The competition will award more than $3,000 in prizes, including $1,000 for the best photograph, a People’s Choice prize and an Environment and Sustainable Development prize. This latter one is presented jointly by the Fondation du Collège de Maisonneuve and the CCDMD.

This year, the contest will be held under the patronage of Benoit Aquin. For twenty-five years, this Montreal-based photographer has been producing documentary projects that expose the environmental issues of our time and the human stories attached to it.

The goal of the contest is to encourage the development of the next generation of photographers by facilitating the production and sharing of high-quality photography. Participation is restricted to students in the Québec CEGEP network. Each participant may submit a maximum of five photographs. Files must be uploaded directly to the World of Images website until March 15, 2017 (before midnight).

The contest by the numbers

  • Since the first contest in 2011–2012, 11, 266 photographs have been submitted by 1,500 students from more than 65 institutions in the college network.
  • 30 winners have received $15,000 in prizes and 24 students have received honourable mentions.
  • 4 exhibits have been held in different CEGEPs, presenting a selection of the best photographs from that year’s contest.
  • An exhibition of the 2015–2016 edition finalists, 33 photos in total, was presented at the Musée Populaire de la Photographie, in Drummondville, from June 27 to October 2, 2016.
