Spotlight on tutoring at the 27th CAF meeting

May 28, 2013

The 27th meeting of the coordinators of the Centres d'aide en français (French help centres, or CAF) will take place on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Cégep de Sherbrooke. This year, the theme of the meeting – more commonly known as Intercaf – will be tutoring.

Representatives of CEGEPs from the four corners of the province will look specifically at the following topics: peer tutoring, tutoring management (recruitment, training, software, etc.), pedagogical material on tutor-tutee relations and many other aspects of individualized learning assistance. The goal is to identify actions that will maximize the positive effects of tutoring.

More than a dozen activities have been lined up, including lectures, presentations and discussions. Nearly 120 CEGEP participants are expected, maily French teachers, CAF coordinators, people in charge of promoting French and pedagogical advisors. Coordinators from the university assistance centres will also be taking part, and some one dozen exhibitors are expected to attend.

Since 1988, the coordinators of the CEGEP CAFs have been getting together at the Intercaf to discuss their projects, needs and so on. Year in and year out, these popular gatherings, which have been held in Longueuil, Laval, Montréal, Sainte-Foy, Québec, Trois-Rivières, Baie-Comeau and Lévis-Lauzon, bring together a hundred or so people.

The 27th edition is being organized jointly by the CCDMD and Cégep de Sherbrooke.
