CCDMD publication translated into Inuktitut

September 17, 2012

The CCDMD textbook Machines-outils fixes, La sécurité d’abord! (Stationary Machines: Safety First!) has just been published in Inuktitut.

This work by André Désautels, an instructor at the Collège de Victoriaville and the École du meuble de Montréal, trains cabinetmaking students and, from the very beginning of their learning process, raises their awareness of the safety rules, instructions and recommendations for every stationary machine in the workshop.

Through a partnership agreement with the CCDMD, the Kativik School Board (KSB) assumed the publication costs (translation, layout and printing) for two new versions: in English and in Inuktitut.

The KSB is a non-ethnic board that offers all levels of education – from kindergarten to Secondary V, as well as adult education and professional training – to the 14 communities in Nunavik. All KSB programs must meet the objectives prescribed by the Québec ministry of education, but the content and language level are adapted for Inuit students, who do their schooling in Inuktitut, French and English.
