Artefact is an editing software program that allows teachers and students to create collections of digitized images (paintings, sculptures, architectural elements, industrial art and design objects, photos, drawings, artefacts, etc.) to document their works - for example, by associating a text or audio commentary with the biography of the artist. It can serve to create formative exercises for the analysis of these images, to build up a database of terms and to create an audiovisual exhibition on a computer or the Web.

The software can also be used to examine an existing collection - see, for example, the collection provided with the software - to consult the documentation on the works and the artists, to do the suggested formative exercises or to visit the audiovisual exhibition prepared by another person.
