Launch of the 2015 Francojeu des cégeps

March 2, 2015

The CCDMD invites you to take part in the 2015 Francojeu des cégeps, held in partnership with the Office québécois de la langue française. From March 2 to 22, on Facebook (with or without an FB account), you can join the game and take part in the online contest.

The 2015 edition promises to be entertaining and instructive. The focus is the 10 words of the Francofête which, this year, showcase the permeability of the language – that is, its capacity to absorb “loanwords”: zénitude, kitch, wiki, grigri, amalgame, kermesse, cibler, bravo, inuit, sérendipité. The Francofête words are a means of getting Francojeu participants to reflect on the wealth of our language.

A draw will be held, with prizes from Druide informatique, COOPSCO, Les Éditions Le Robert and Québec Amérique. At the end of the quiz questionnaire, the participants can also submit to the 2015 Francojeu jury a word they would like to see adopted by French – a word they love, borrowed from another language that does not seem to have an equivalent in French. The person who suggests the winning word will receive a $500 prize from the Office québécois de la langue française.

From March 2 to 22, cégep students and staff are invited to go to francojeu.ccdmd.qc.ca to take part in the contest.

About the Francofête

First launched in 1997, the Francofête is a series of activities in Québec celebrating the French language and the French-speaking world. Francofête 2015 runs from March 10 to 23. This year’s words were chosen by France, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, French-speaking Switzerland, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie and Québec.
